Positioned in the Piedmont area of North Carolina, Statesville is considered the heart of Iredell County. With its perfect blend of historic surroundings, modern culture, and traditional small-town appeal, Statesville has become a popular city to both live in and visit. Because of its location at the intersection of both I-40 and I-77, it has often been called the "crossroads of the future". Locals enjoy being only hours away from both the North Carolina beaches and the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway. There are plenty of activities and attractions one can find, however, without ever having to leave the area.
Statesville offers a wide array of local shopping, Southern dining, and ecreational activities the whole family can enjoy. Play a round of golf at one of our local courses, or visit one our five registered Historic Districts. The George Clooney movie "Leatherheads" was recently filmed in downtown Statesville. Scheduled for release in 2008, the film is set in the 1920ÿs and takes advantage of the townÿs distinctive architecture.
Along with everyday activities, the city of Statesville also offers a unique experience every October in the Carolina Balloonfest. Nationally recognized, this festival has been a Statesville tradition for the last 35 years and draws as many as 80,000 spectators from around the country annually. The weekend is filled with arts and crafts, music and live entertainment, wine tasting, and delicious local cuisine. The event culminates on Sunday morning when over one hundred hot air balloons take off into the air together.
The festival represents what the town of Statesville is all about; culture, beauty, and community. Characteristics like these are hard to find in a town, and once you visit Statesville, youÿll realize theyÿre even harder to ignore.
